Mayor's Tree Lighting 2026

Saturday, November 21st, 2026 from 11:00am to 9:00pm

About

Help us kick off the holiday season in Park Central Square as an ambassador for the city. This year's event is a true community celebration and you can contribute. The day begins with the annual Christmas Parade, followed that evening by the arrival of Santa Claus, and the lighting of the Mayor's Tree. The event is 100% free to the public.

We need volunteers for decorating the square in the afternoon, assisting at stations around the square, including Candy Canes & Christmas Cookies, Hot Chocolate, and Christmas Books. Helpers are needed to organize lines waiting  to ride carriages and the train.

Volunteers will check in at the Route 66 Merchandise Tent, located in the Merry Market that will be set up on Park Central West. Park in the Heer's building garage on the upper floors. Enter the garage at 230 N. Campbell Street. Additional parking options can be found here.

A local background check by the Springfield Police Department is required for this volunteer opportunity.

This is an outdoor event that occurs rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.
